SEP’s and Royalties, “Where the FRAND Are We?” – September 21, 2017

Welcome to the beginning of the 2017-2018 Seattle IP Inn of Court year! The Seattle IP Inn of Court held an orientation for new members before the meeting began. Welcome, new members!

The Honorable James L. Robart gave the evening’s presentation, entitled “SEP’s and Royalties, “Where the FRAND Are We?” Thank you to Judge Robart for his presentation! Thank you, too, to Group 1 for arranging for Judge Robart to speak to us.

 

Year End Party! – June 22, 2017

The Seattle IP Inn of Court enjoyed a beautiful view of Puget Sound at its year end party! Incoming President Warren Rheaume presented Past President Mark P. Walters with a plaque recognizing his service to the Inn. Thank you to the Inn’s members for their participation and contributions during the 2016 – 2017 year!

Patent Law Presentations – May 11, 2017

Group 7 members and patent trial lawyers Paul Swanson (Lane Powell) and David Tellekson (Fenwick & West) provided our CLE presentation. Paul presented on the Pros and Cons of Litigating Patent Cases in the Eastern District of Texas. David presented on the patent venue case then pending before the S. Ct., TC Heartland, and Its Potential Ramifications. Thank you Paul and David!

Legal Jeopardy – April 20, 2017

It was group participation night at the Seattle IP Inn of Court as Group 6 presented Legal Jeopardy. Thank you, Group 6!

Oracle v. Google – Fair Use on Trial. March 16, 2017

Group 5 presented Oracle v. Google – Fair Use on Trial. Group 5 members set the stage by providing the relevant history of the case, then reenacted portions of the jury trial. The issue was whether Google’s use of the Java APIs (owned by Oracle) was a fair use. Thank you, Group 5!

Current Events in U.S. Supreme Court IP Jurisprudence – February 16, 2017

Group 4 presented “Current Events in U.S. Supreme Court IP Jurisprudence.” Thank you, Group 4!

Writing Seminar – January 19, 2017

Group 3 presented a Writing Seminar. Five brave Seattle IP Inn of Court members volunteered to submit an introduction to a summary judgment motion for The Hebrew University of Jerusalem v. General Motors, a 2010 Central District of California case. The writing samples were submitted anonymously and critiqued by panel members the Honorable James L. Robart, Steven O. Fortney, Andrew Culbert and Isabella Fu. Warren Rheaume moderated. Dario Machleidt enlisted volunteers and compiled the writing samples. Thank you, Group 3!

Technology & Access to Justice in Washington – October 5, 2016

The William L. Dwyer Inn of Court hosted the Hon. Robert J. Bryan Inn of Court and The Seattle IP Inn of Court for our annual joint meeting of the Inns.  The William L. Dwyer Inn also presented on Technology & Access to Justice in Washington. Thank you to the William L. Dwyer Inn for both hosting and presenting!
